Kuila NewsletterI was featured in the latest installment of the Kuila Expression Session Newsletter, both promoting the next Expression Session on the 25th May as well as my gig with Brother & Brother on the 27th at Aandklas in Stellenbosch. The little write up they gave me is quite rad, it’s so different reading someone else’s opinion of you. Check it out here.

This month’s Expression Session is gonna be very cool, since Jerome Rex‘s Smaaklik album launch band will be doing a reunion (I played keyboard at the launch). If you’ve been following this blog, you’ll know that the launch was featured on KykNet’s Kollig TV show. If you missed it, check it out below:

BroBro at Aandklas 27 MayIf you haven’t yet got your ticket from me for Brother & Brother at Aandklas on the 27th, you are gonna miss out. Yesterday myself and Adi went on a poster sticking up spree all over Stellenbosch, from coffee shops to restaurants to pubs to street poles to dustbins to campus – it was something else. Tickets are R10 each at pre-sale.

I’m also doing something quite new on the 24th May – it will be my first time accompanying dancers, yikes! My partner from the SAICA Roadshow Danalia, is a dance instructor at the Dance Domain in Milnerton and the two of us are doing a few acoustic semi-duo songs at Dance Domain Tableview’s Night of the Stars. We’ll be doing a bunch of covers that range from Sade’s Smooth Operator to Tina Turner’s Simply the Best – very new for me.

RockvilleOn another note, in September I am acting/playing in a huge musical happening at Artscape Opera House called Rockville 2069 – South Africa’s first fully orchestrated rock musical! It features a cast of 25, a 7-piece rock band and the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.

“In a world of chaos and complication, Rockville 2069, is a rock musical of Hope, the Universal Power of Music and Love.”

“The year is 2069. Greed, conflict, neglect and excess are exhausting the world’s resources and bringing the earth to its knees. But tonight, we stand as one, united in peace, in love, in music, to stop this madness and to celebrate the centenary of the Woodstock music and arts festival here in upstate New York,  just like it was all those years ago. And just as our forefathers upheld the philosophy of peace and love, and make music, not war, so too shall we uphold that legacy. We shall take a stand against the destruction of our earth, our home. The bands that have come together are all descendants of the families and musicians that attended that original festival back in 1969. They represent the 3 iconic legendary music styles which had their origins in Rock..”

I play a character called Dylan (after Bob Dylan) – you can check out my profile on their website. Pretty cool!
