Raynie at InZync Poetry Slam

Last week Friday was my first time at SliPnet’s InZync Poetry Slam at Amazink Eatery in Kayamandi. The poetry sessions are headed up by my rapper/poet friend Adrian Diff and Pieter Odendaal and occur at regular intervals throughout the year. The last time I attended their session was at the Africa Day Celebration held at Cafe Art.

Friday was Raynie‘s first time entering the slam. Each poet was required to perform their pieces to a full audience and a panel of 4 judges. After each round, a whole bunch of entrants were knocked-out until only 3 remained. Raynie was one of the 3, but not before he “choked” on his first round piece.

Apparently his poem entitled An Issue of Blood which he performed in the 2nd round saved his butt big time. This particular piece was inspired by an idea I had (still have) for a poetry compilation album I want to produce called “Mixed Heritage: An Issue of Blood” which I then relayed to Raynie. He came back and whipped up a timeless poem, which I then added music to. This was around two years ago. Have a listen to it:
