With This Voice: Music Exchange 2015

Rehearsals are in full swing today for the Music Exchange 2015 Media Launch: With This Voice, featuring Siphokazi Jonas – Poet, jazz singer ZoĆ« Modiga, singer/keyboardist Eden Myrrh, Fruit Vendor, singer Keanu Harker, guitarist Germaine Leonard, bassist Revan Riba Khwezi, drummer Jason Skippers with the songwriting of Mdu Ndebele. Definitely one of the coolest teams I’ve been a part of! We’ll be performing at the Music Exchange media launch on Thursday night at Grandwest Casino, the only act that was booked for the evening’s entertainment – this is rather BIG!

Music Exchange is South Africa’s premier music, film and entertainment conference and has featured artists like world renowned composer Trevor Jones, Mos Def and Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse – who have imparted much needed wisdom as a means to pave the way forward for local artists. This year’s speakers include 9 time Grammy award winner Bryan-Michael Cox and Brandon Bakshi, executive director of BMI.

A few months back Siphokazi Jonas put on her first theatre piece entitled “Around the Fire”, which was a raving success – albeit one night only at the Warehouse in Wetton. I was fortunate enough to be booked to play keyboard and sing as part of a diverse lineup which included the jazz vocal talents of SAMRO Overseas Scholarship winner Zoe Modiga and the pop vocal prowess of Eden Myrrh and Keanu Harker. Music Exchange organiser Razia Myers was in the audience that night and she’s made it possible for us to take the stage at this very prestigious event. “With This Voice” is Around the Fire, slightly amended to fit the theme of Music Exchange. I’ll also be performing one of my original tunes called “Real Job” which I’m quite psyched about.

We’ll be rehearsing solidly over the next two days, fruit will most definitely be shared.
